As a comprehensive museum that integrates display, collection research, academic exchanges and public education, it provides a multitude of creative perspectives and a platform for the all-round development of the university.
It has a floor space of about 8,000 square meters and a 1,300-meter route from which visitors can admire the exhibits. There are six halls for temporary exhibitions and one for permanent exhibition, which all maintain appropriate temperature and humidity levels.
The museum consists of three sub-divisions: the Art Museum (contemporary arts), the Design Museum (Bauhaus and European modern designs), and the Folk Crafts Museum (ethnic and folk arts), bringing together domestic and international arts and combining the traditional with the modern.
Over the past several years, it has held tens of exhibitions of great academic importance, such as the exhibition series “The Road of the CAA”, “1985: an Exhibition Dedicated to the 85th Anniversary of the CAA”, and “Destiny of Land: The Migrations and Geopolitics of Asian Modern Arts”.
As an important place for public cultural service, the museum has organized several public educational events in coordination with the academy. They include the musical festival “One Night in the Museum” and the “85 Documentary Film Show”, part of the academy’s 85th anniversary celebration.
It boasts a fairly systemic collection of the works by modern and contemporary masters of Chinese painting, such as Huang Binhong (1865-1955), Pan Tianshou (1897-1971), Lin Fengmian (1900-91) and Lu Yanshao (1909-93). It also has rich collections of works by oil painters such as Yan Wenliang (1893-1988) and Ni Yide (1901-70), and printmakers such as Li Qun (1912-2012), Yan Han (1916-2011), and Wu Fan (1923-2015).
